Yarbrough, known for his band The Limelighters as well as his solo work, including the title song for the 1956 film “Baby the Rain Must Fall,” died Thursday in Nashville of complicationsf from dementia, his daughter told The New York Times.
Friends – I wanted to let you know that Dad died very peacefully last night about 9:30. He was here at home surrounded by people who love him. My dear friend Julie Adams and I were flanking him in bed, my husband Robert was nearby and Gertie was curled up next to the bed. Dad was listening to “Baby the Rain Must Fall” when his breaths spaced out and he drifted up and out during the last chorus – catching a ride on the Perseids to his next Great Adventure. It was a very good death. More stories to tell about him and some amazing things that happened last night, but I need to get a bit more sleep at the moment. Didn’t want it to leak out though, so figured I’d better let y’all know. Much love to all. ~ Holly 8/12/16
Gary Grossman: Sad news from the folk music world today. Glenn Yarbrough died. He was a founding member of The Limeliters and I’m proud to say that Fred Putman and I produced a wonderful Showtime special in the early ’80s with Glenn reunited with The Limeliters. I’ve attached the link to the show. Check for Glenn coming on at 1 hour 05 minutes 35 seconds. It’s a wonderful performance, first with Glenn and then The Limeliters. https://vimeo.com/79119770 The whole special is totally worth watching. RIP Glenn, a true humanitarian and great singer with an unforgettable voice.
