Photo: Sam Rivers of Limp Bizkit | By Melody Rivera, The Mirror US | Sam Rivers has passed away at age 48. On Saturday, Oct. 19, the nu metal band Limp Bizkit announced their bassist has died without sharing the reason for his abrupt passing.
Just months after frontman Fred Durst revealed the meaning to their long-debated name, the band revealed the news to their fans on Instagram, stating, “In Loving Memory of Our Brother, Sam Rivers. Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat. Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player — he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound.”
The band continued, “From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous. We shared so many moments — wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones — and every one of them meant more because Sam was there.
“He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human.
A true legend of legends,” they added. “And his spirit will live forever in every groove, every stage, every memory.”
The band concluded, “We love you, Sam. We’ll carry you with us, always. Rest easy, brother. Your music never ends. — Fred, Wes, John & DJ Lethal.”

OTHER NOTABLE MUSICIANS’ DEATHS
Steve Sirockin: RIP my friend and former bandmate Steve Reid. He was born in Georgetown, CO , near Denver, and was an excellent high energy percussionist and composer, as well as a great music sightreader. Some of his over 100 recording credits include Miles Davis, The Rippingtons, Stanley Jordan, Frank Gambale, Dave Koz, Jeff Kashiwa, Rob Mullins, and Brian Bromberg. But before he made it big in L.A., he and I played in a band along with Efren Olvera El Oso, Tom Theilen, Ricardo Toral Azuela, and singer David Andrews. We had a lot of fun and I’m truly shocked to hear that he has left us. 1st photo is our band, and he is middle back row, and I’m on the left back row. The rest of the photos are from some of his many projects.
