Dr. L. Scott Martin – renowned vocal coach – passes

It is with the most profound sense of sadness, and with a hole in our hearts that will never be filled, that we announce the passing of Dr. Scott Martin. RIP Scott. We will miss you.
1939-2021

From Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, to Michael Jackson, Barbara Streisand, Patsy Cline, the Fray, CeCe Winans, Bobby McFerrin, Kristin Chenoweth, Kenny Rogers, Nancy Wilson of HEART, Michael Murphey, Rachel Lampa, Stacey Orrico, Randy Travis, George Michael, Geoff Tate of Queensryche, Cody Qualls of Face and Willie Nelson! Scott Martin has one of the most extensive musical backgrounds of any Voice Teacher in the industry.

Scott Martin, PhD, aka Doc Scott, holds a Doctoral Degree in Musical Theater Performance from the Juilliard School and was a Professor of Music at the University of Maryland. As a Vocal Coach, Doc Scott worked with some of the most important and influential names in the music and entertainment industries.

Dr. L. Scott Martin passed away in his home in Golden, Colorado, March 10, 2021. Doctor Scott, as his students called him, was a greatly respected and well loved voice teacher, mentor, and friend. He had over 50 years of experience in the Music and Entertainment industries. In 1979 Dr. Martin moved to Golden and began to focus on his own teaching career after teaching at the Aspen Music Festival and falling in love with Colorado. He founded the Golden Music Studio and began teaching voice to local and national artists, and later the Academy of the Arts, based in Denver, and most recently VOCAL PRO. His students included many well known local talents, and national and international recording artists.

Dr. Martin worked extensively as Vocal Session Coach at Colorado Sound, Caribou Ranch and Avalanche studios, among others, and worked with the Gospel Music Association’s (GMA) Music in the Rockies for over 20 years as a presenter and judge. His teaching, mentoring, infectious laugh and loving nature changed the course of life for many of those fortunate enough to study under him. “My life’s passion has been to always glorify God with the gift of music He bestowed in my heart and soul, and to encourage others to share their gift in excellence to exalt His name.” -Dr. L. Scott Martin.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please check docscottmartin.org website for updates on this event.
