In Memoriam|

Steve F. Kayden | From Steve’s sister Mary Ellen: For anyone who had not heard, we lost my brother Steve last night (1/31, 9 pm EST). Steve passed peacefully in his sleep after a month-long hospital stay. He was much loved and will be missed by family in CA, CO, FL, NJ and VA, and numerous friends across the country.

Steve was a fantastic brother and best friend to me, from our childhood though my last visit with him. He was a great musician (piano, drums, flute, bass/6 string/12 string guitar… you name it!) and a fantastic singer. He was always creative; a talented artist too. While my teen peers were listening to David Cassidy and Donny Osmond, Steve introduced me to the Beatles, Gentle Giant, Black Sabbath, King Crimson, Scorps, and my fav, Todd Rundgren. Later.. Glen Burtnick, Asia, Damn Yankees. We saw Todd and others in concert, after he returned to NJ in 2015 and I will cherish those shared moments!

Love ya, brother! I know that Mom and Dad are loving having you with them again!! ~ MEK

From Mary Ellen (earlier): Please say prayers, think good thoughts, light a candle, chant… whatever you can do to send good healing energy to my brother, Steve. He is very ill in ICU, with (non-Covid) pneumonia and some other health issues. Collectively, let’s help the docs and nurses heal him. And BIG THANKS to all the medical professionals giving such special care to our loved ones! Thanks!

Ric Cabot Podmore: It is with a very heavy heart that I share the passing of ARRIVAL bassist Steve Kayden. Steve joined ARRIVAL in 1989 and immediately became an integral part of our sound with his vocal and musical capabilities. I always felt like we had the exact clone of John Wetton in our band. He was, without a doubt, the most talented of all of us and he was truly one of the most gifted musicians I’ve ever met.

Steve gave me one of the greatest gifts ever…when he moved in with me way back when, he brought a 12-string guitar with him. That old Yamaha sparked a fascination in me that would change my life forever and create, as Randy Chavez always says, ‘Ric Chords’.

Steve, from all of us who loved you dearly, “What gives?”

RIP

[Steve moved back to New Jersey in 2015 from Colorado after having been in the music scene here for years and was in the band “Arrival Delayed”.]
