By Jen Aswad, Variety || Jimmy Cliff, the Jamaican singer, actor and cultural ambassador for reggae music, who starrted in and wrote the song for the iconic 1972 filmt “The Harder They Come,” has died, according to a message from his wife. He was 81.
A message from his wife Latifa Chambers on Instagram reads: “It’s with profound sadness that I share that my husband, Jimmy Cliff, has crossed over due to a seizure followed by pneumonia. I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and coworkers who have shared his journey with him. To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career … Jimmy, my darling, may you rest in peace. I will follow your wishes.” Her message was also signed by their children, Lilty and Aken.

Cause of Death Revealed For Reggae Legend Jimmy Cliff

Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff has passed away, his wife Latifa Chambers announced on Instagram Monday morning. Cliff was 81.
A 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Cliff helped bring the reggae genre to new heights. His career spanned more than five decades, with his latest album, Refugees, released in 2022. In announcing his death, Chambers also revealed what led to her husband’s passing.

According to Chambers, Cliff had been hospitalized due to a seizure as well as pneumonia.
