From John Macy on Facebook on 4/28/20: Got the news yesterday of the passing of John McDonald. John was the first guitar player I really worked with and we both learned a lot together as young players. That year (1972) I answered an ad for a steel player needed and it turned out to be from John Lincoln Wright. Since I was the only player that answered, I got the gig and found out he needed a guitar player, too and brought John in. That band became our first band for both of us, and John Lincoln Wright and the Sourmash Boys quickly became one of the most popular bands in the New England area.
When I left and moved to Colorado to play with Michael Murphey in 1976, John came out a while later for a visit and to do some recording.
John was tragically diagnosed with Huntington’s disease a few years ago and succumbed to the Covid-19 virus on Monday. All my best to his family and friends.
I will treasure the memories.
