According to Statista, Colorado has the second highest suicide rate among adolescents and teens in the Nation, we are 5th among women and in the top 10 overall for suicides in the U.S. Suicides in Colorado have more than doubled in the last 20 years.

What can be done about it: Suicide is preventable. More than one-third of Coloradoans who lost their lives to suicide had recently disclosed their intent to someone within a month prior to their death.

Studies show that the feeling of connection, even to just one person, is enough to prevent a suicide. Staying socially connected and holding open conversations about mental health, so no one has a struggle alone, is key. This requires understanding that people of any age, gender, race, ethnicity, profession, or geography can be at risk for suicide, and that though we all have unique experiences and behaviors, knowing and watching for warning signs can make an enormous difference. Even more importantly, we all must support policies and leadership that can improve the root causes of many mental health stressors.

Dr. Annette Cannon writes: I attended the Suicide Prevention Coalition Summit August 25th. Great information and amazing connections. Jefferson Center has connected with Dan Barnhart for this Y.A.N.A. (You Are Never Alone) concert (tribute bands INXS and Nirvana). Should be a blast. Please attend if you can as all the proceeds will go for Suicide Prevention. There is also a Tattoo event running on Sept. 7th to get a semicolon (there are many designs) and those funds all go to Suicide Prevention, too, at the Jefferson Center. I am on these Coalitions and they help me with meeting my goals as Coroner and as a Nurse to reduce our Suicide rates. Please consider both of these events. I’m signed up for a tattoo already, so let me know if you plan to get one, too! (Dr. Cannon is a COMBO Board Member, Jefferson County Coroner, and bass player – among many other accomplishments!)

Devil INXSide is the devilishly fun INXS tribute; delivering the captivating high-energy show INXS was known for. Bringing the essence of what made INXS such an amazing band; passion and power, lust and love. And absolutely nailing hits like, “Need You Tonight”, “Suicide Blonde”, “What You Need”, “Never Tear Us Apart”, “Devil Inside”, “New Sensation”, “Don’t Change, “Original Sin”, etc, etc…Devil INXSide is comprised of some of Colorado’s most talented musicians. Fronted by Dan Barnhart, who not only looks and sounds like Michael Hutchence but also brings Hutch’s energy and playfulness. Tom Laird delivers their unique/signature guitar tones alongside Noel Johannes, who nails the era-defining 80’s synth and 90’s piano sounds INXS was known for. Their rock solid rhythm section demands that you dance and is held down by Jason Nimz on drums and Mike Perlovsky on bass. If you are nostalgic for the music of INXS, Devil INXSide is “What You Need!”

Bleach’d was started by Clint VanTroba in 2020 in Loveland, CO. Since that time, they have become the foremost Nirvana Tribute, performing on stages across the Front Range. Performing a mix of Nirvana’s classic hits with a few deep cuts thrown in, you can expect a high energy tribute to the greatest band from the Grunge era!
