By Owen Basselmen, Dakota News Now (KTIV) | The National Music Museum (NMM) in Vermillion, South Dakota, received a $1 million donation from South Dakota philanthropist and businessman T. Denny Sanford. Sanford made the donation to support the museum’s ongoing exhibit renovation project.

The museum said Sanford’s donation will help continue the renovation of the museum’s second-floor galleries, a project that completes the vision for a world-class visitor experience.

“This significant gift marks a milestone in the museum’s efforts to enhance our offerings and expand our educational impact,” said Scott Lawrence, National Music Museum board chairman. “It provides essential momentum toward the completion of our exhibit renovation project, ensuring that the NMM will continue to inspire and educate future generations.”

University of South Dakota President Sheila K. Gestring added that Sanford’s support will benefit generations of USD students, increasing their access to world-renowned instruments and music history.
