Sounds True is seeking a Managing Editor in their Louisville location to coordinate the book production process from acquisition to bound book for 45+ titles per year, and to manage editorial operations. This role is responsible for maintaining and modifying the production schedules, routing book and galley material, and disseminating up-to-date information regarding schedules, on-sale dates, and pricing.

Specific responsibilities include:
● Setting schedules for books, galleys, kits, and card decks, including drop-in products
● Establishing and maintaining product timelines in consultation with relevant departments
● Acting as production liaison across all departments involved with book production, including Art, Copy, Editorial, Production, Proofreading, eComm, and Dev
● Providing support to all departments throughout the book production process to ensure deadlines are met
● Managing editorial operations including the definition, maintenance, and documentation of processes (e.g. transmittal, art logs, permissions, citations)
● Conducting trainings and check-ins with editors on processes and deadlines as needed
● Reviewing all transmitted manuscripts to ensure deliverables and stipulations have been met
● Routing book materials including jacket copy, sample pages, roughs, and printer proofs
● Setting up and maintaining title records
● Coordinating the production of bound galleys and trade catalogs for Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, and Sales
● Working closely with the marketing department to ensure that metadata is ready to be released to accounts within the industry-desired time frame.
● Scheduling and running relevant seasonal meetings
● Conducting weekly production status meetings with appropriate teams
● Establishing and maintaining interdepartmental relationships to help achieve departmental and corporate goals

Candidate should have:
● Minimum of four years of publishing experience; experience in managing editorial, production, or production editorial a plus
● Excellent communication skills, including a strong ability to interact with employees across various departments
● Superb organizational and time management skills
● Outstanding ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
● Strong attention to detail
● Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
● Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; knowledge of Firebrand and/or Jira a plus
