The John Lennon Songwriting Contest (JLSC), the international songwriting contest open to both amateur and professional songwriters, has announced the opening of the Session I contest and will accept submissions until June 15. 12 grand prize winners and 36 finalists will be announced on Sept. 1. Contest entry fees help support the non-profit John Lennon Educational Tour Bus.
Featuring over $300,000 in cash awards and prizes, the John Lennon Songwriting Contest provides songwriters with the opportunity to get their music heard. New for 2015, the JLSC has welcomed Flea (the Red Hot Chili Peppers), Grammy Award-winner producer Noel “Detail” Fisher (Beyoncé, Drake, Lil Wayne) and alt-rockers American Authors to the Executive Panel of Judges. Other noteworthy judges for the contest include George Clinton, Taylor Momsen (the Pretty Reckless), Prince Royce, 311, Fergie (the Black Eyed Peas) and more. Notable past winners include Grammy nominee Meghan Trainor, American Authors, Nasri Atweh (lead singer/songwriter of the band Magic!), Lake Street Drive, Gaby Moreno and Eliza Callahan (of the band Jack + Eliza).
“The Lennon Bus encourages music students and kids to get involved in recording music, providing them with a sense of purpose and something beautiful to do,” commented Flea. “Enter your songs now. Let’s hear them!”
“The Lennon Bus’ mission of providing free hands-on opportunities to students is supported by some of the biggest artists and brands in the industry,” said Brian Rothschild, Executive Director of the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. “The John Lennon Songwriting Contest helps make it all possible while encouraging songwriters to pursue their dreams.”
Recently the JLSC announced lo-fi indie group III Bones as the winner of its annual Valentine’s Day Songwriting Contest. The Austin-based quartet, who were chosen for their original song “Love Is The Only Way,” will receive a prize package consisting of: Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Headphones, Disc Makers 12? Vinyl Pressing (200) with full-color Euro Jackets, Epiphone Casino guitar and hard case, IK Multimedia iLoud, IK Multimedia iRig, Mackie ProFX12 12-Channel USB Compact Mixer with Effects, Neutrik custom John Lennon Educational Tour Bus cable, Propellerhead Reason 8 and ZVEX Effects Fuzzolo.
