Songwriter's Corner|

Robin Frederick writes: Know someone who would enjoy a little songwriting info? Feel free to share this with a friend. Ms. Frederick, who has written several books on the art of songwriting, has shared some “subject lines” to help you get started in writing some seasonal songs!

WRITE A SUMMER SONG!
Every summer the airwaves (and Internet waves) are filled with summertime songs—the perfect soundtrack for beach days, picnics in the park, travel, and sports events. Whether it’s a Beach Boys classic or Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar,” summertime songs always seem to bring on the good times, sunny days, cool evenings, and fleeting romances.

Like holiday songs, summer songs can have a long life year after year. There’s an annual market for songs that accompany the season. Established artists need those summer releases. Reality TV shows cash in on the fun, relaxing vibe. And just like Holiday songs, the best time to write them is when that vibe is happening all around you.

For my readers in Australia and New Zealand where it’s winter, pull out some of those beach photos you took last December. Catch a few episodes of “Hawaii Five-0.” Listen to your favorite summer songs and let them warm you up.

Robin also suggests topics like:
● Summer Love: Heartbeat or Heartbreak
● Write a country hit for summer
● Try a high energy summer pop song
