The last couple of years have seen a significant increase in the number of calls and missions, with more and more people enjoying the Grand County back-country, both summer and winter. The Stella Gives Back Story

When an unexpected snowstorm dropped nearly a foot of snow on two brothers during their annual backpacking trip last September, it forced them, as experienced back-country travelers, to do what they never imagined… call for help.

Grand County Search and Rescue answered that call.

When GCSAR arrived at their camp the brothers’ dog, Stella, got scared and ran off.

Unfortunately, after hours of calling for her late at night, they had to make the hard decision to make it to safety without her. After five heartbreaking days had passed without Stella home, GCSAR team members rallied to go back into the field for a different type of mission, well outside the scope of GCSAR: to search for Stella.

Against all odds, GCSAR members successfully located Stella and led her out – reuniting Stella with her owner! It was a testament to the dedication, sacrifice, tenacity, perseverance, and selflessness of the team – who regularly exhibits all of this “so others may live”, but went the extra 14+ miles, so Stella may live.

Today, those brothers found their “pay it forward” moment, crafting this event to say thank you. With members of their band Slopeside, the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and Grand County Search and Rescue, we have created the Stella Gives Back Benefit Concert to be held on Saturday, August 13th in the heart of Winter Park, at the Rendezvous Event Center in Hideaway Park.

Thank you,
SLOPESIDE
