Phil Jamieson, formerly the frontman of the Australian rock band Grinspoon, told fans that he slipped while onstage Friday, Aug. 7, per an Instagram post shared on Monday, Aug. 10.
The 49-year-old said that he had to stop the concert after his spine “connected to the drum riser,” which led to him being taken to Latrobe Hospital, in Victoria, via ambulance.
“I spent most of Friday in emergency getting different tests etc and by 4am I was confirmed to have fractured my L1 (lower back guy), with a prescription of bed rest and a long road to recovery,” Jamieson wrote in the post.
“This means, sigh, that the tour is cancelled : ( ,” he continued, adding that venues and ticketing agencies should be in contact with fans about refunds.
“No-one is more bummed about this than me, but I can’t stand up let alone play a gig at the moment,” the singer said as he shared a series of snaps from the hospital, including him lying in a bed and an X-ray of his spine.
Jamieson has also had to call off his launch party for his new album, 10Charlie, which was due to be released on Aug. 14, per his website.
