Mel & Chad Aman from the Go Fund Me page.

This past spring, the greatest music venue in the nation went purple to pay tribute to Prince. A massive group of local musicians came together on one stage to share the love, the music and the passion of one of the most important musicians in history. And local musicians from all over Colorado had the opportunity to realize the dream of playing a sold-out show at the one and only Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The Musical Director behind it all was Chad Aman. Standing next to him is another local creative evangelist and juggernaut, Mel Aman. And they need our help.

Here’s just a few of the local foundations Mel has consulted with or donated her time to over the years:

● The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation
● One World Heart foundation
● The Heart and Hand Center in the Five Points neighborhood
● A Walk To Remember foundation that offers support to those who have recently lost a child or miscarried in pregnancy
● The Colorado Symphony Orchestra Youth program
● City Park Jazz

And both Mel and Chad have been recognized as Volunteers of the Year by the Crohn’s foundation. Quite simply, if you’ve worked in the creative field in Denver in any way over the past 20 years, you’ve run into the Amans, and their work has touched your life as well. Whether you know it or not.

Chad Aman was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease several years ago, and has been struggling with the illness for most of his adult life. He spent most of November in the hospital, and is facing at least two major surgeries over the next few weeks. He has a massive hernia, which has sent any food he eats directly back into his lungs, creating a chronic pneumonia condition. And because of his constant issues, he is also facing the challenge of having all his teeth pulled, in addition to all the rest of the complications with Crohn’s. Mel has been out of work helping to care for him, And they’re facing significant uphill battles with his health and their finances.

A GoFund Me page has been set up to support Mel and Chad with the astronomical bills and expenses they are currently dealing with.

“Quite frankly, you’ll be hard pressed to find two people who are MORE committed to the greater community in Denver — both in terms of the arts, but additionally, humanitarian causes,” said former Rocky Mountain News columnist and local musician Dave Flomberg. “All they’ve ever done is give of themselves to others, and we have an important opportunity to give a little back. Let’s not let them down.”

Donations from throughout the Colorado creative community have begun pouring in to the GoFund Me page set up by their friend Sara Crosby. After just 17 hours, more than $3,000 has been raised to support the Aman family, but so much more is needed right now. Donations can also be dropped off in-person at The Bug Theatre, 3654 Navajo Street in Denver. There is a box in the lobby for donations or, if the theatre is closed, you can simply drop any donations in the mail slot.

Thank you so much!
