Musicians in Action helping the homeless.

In September, 2016, Musicians In Action-CO, also known as M.I.A., received their letter of determination from the IRS to proceed as an official 501(c)3 nonprofit. This organization mobilizes local musicians to aid Colorado’s homeless through various music events, in-kind donation drives, and other volunteerism activities.

Marc Olson founded M.I.A. in 2009, to act as an all-volunteer entity that would “pop up out of nowhere” to deliver targeted basic human needs to various Denver homelessness agencies. During shows and other events, M.I.A. has collected everything from food and clothing, to diapers, children’s medicine, vitamins for seniors, dental hygiene products for homeless teens, and a variety of other items.

In April, 2016, M.I.A. reformed as Musicians In Action-CO and received 501(c)3 status this September. M.I.A. hosted a stage at the 45th annual CHUN People’s Fair in June and since then has collected over $3000.00/month worth of basic human needs.

“It’s only going to get bigger.” said Marc. “We have an excellent board of directors behind this effort and a very clear direction. We also have a variety of vehicles for rewarding our donors and many other ways for anyone to get involved.”

Marc said M.I.A. is preparing a highly collaborative supported employment program for the homelessness community, scheduled to roll out in 2017. The four main agencies that this nonprofit serves are: Urban Peak, the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, the Gathering Place, and Senior Support Services.
