This weekend was to have been the last concert of our 2019-2020 formal concert season which would have featured our Young Artist, Benjamin Segall, from the Denver School of the Arts performing Variations on A Theme by Glinka/Rimsky Korsakov on his oboe.
For winning DCB’s Young Artist Competition, Benjamin has received a $3000 scholarship to apply toward his college education. We hope we’ll be able to have Benjamin perform with us some time in the future.
Our spring theme was to be Suites and Sweets, based on music that has thrilled audiences for centuries. Selections would have included Clifton Williams’ Symphonic Suite, William Still’s Deep River from Folk Suite, Henry Fillmore’s Teddy Trombone, Eric Coates’ Knightsbridge March from London Suite, Alfred Reed’s Armenian Dances, and several others. We hope to perform these and other wonderful pieces in the not too distant future.
Looking back to our February Guest Artist Concert, we were very excited to have featured Robert W Smith who was commissioned by Ben & Betty Loye to compose In the Garden of the Gods specifically for The Denver Concert Band. Mr. Smith conducted our premier performance of his composition as our guest conductor.
We look forward to seeing you again at some possible summer venue or the first formal concert of our 2020-2021 concert season tentatively scheduled for September, again back at The Lone Tree Arts Center.
Stay safe,
Your Denver Concert Band
