From Mark Friedman: I have always been intrigued and inspire by harmonica only jams, so finally I put together a playlist on Spotify and one on Tidal (Because TIDAL has the Sonny Boy 2 solo piece that has inspired me over the last 50+ years as well as the quirky Annie Raines double harp jam I am super fond of.) Both playlist feature so many of my favorite harmonica players playing solo or with other harp players only. Some of the other harp players include Sonny Terry, Phil Wiggins, Carey Bell, Billy Branch, Sugar Blue & Mad Cat Ruth. (My newly released Phil Wiggins tribute, “Feeling Phil by Three,” is also on there with 2024 Memphis IBC Winner Joe Waters, Josh Elioseff & myself. Please let me know if there are any other tracks that are other harmonica only jams that you think I should include, and if you are like me, welcome to harmonica heaven.

From Mark “Mad Dog” Friedman: The second single from Mad Dog Blues’ new ALL THE WAY album is out everywhere you stream! It is called “The Moaning of the Spruce,” and it is a poetic exploration of the causes behind the impending ecological collapse of our planet. (I am trying to give a voice to what I hear in nature these days.) This track features the amazing El Rice on cello and showcases some of the stylistic diversity characteristic of our little jug band. The melody of this song was a gift from the St. Vrain River a couple of years ago at Planet Bluegrass. Please let me know if you like it. The full album releases on August 16.
