The Denver Police Department (DPD) said officers arrested a man after a stabbing that left his estranged wife and her friend dead on Wednesday morning.
Officers responded around 12:10 a.m. to the 2200 block of South Marion Street for a domestic violence incident. That is near East Iliff Avenue and South Downing Street in Denver.
Officers discovered women who were pronounced dead at the scene from suspected stab wounds. Two sleeping children were also located inside the home.
According to a Probable Cause (PC) statement for the suspect’s arrest, officers discovered 36-year-old Matthew Madden, who was bloody and holding a knife.
Officers tased Madden after he refused to drop the knife, and the (PC) statement says he was taken to the hospital in critical condition for treatment on self-inflicted injuries suffered before his arrest including apparent lacerations on his neck, chest and arms.
Multiple neighbors reported hearing an argument from their home and someone yelling “get out” repeatedly before the commotion stopped, according to the PC statement.
A witness also reported that Madden had moved out around July.
