Music Notes|

Photo: June McHugh | I wrote this as a response to a friend’s post today. I stand by it: NashVegas has been a “smoke and mirrors” town for a couple of decades now, at least, if not for longer. I was telling someone about our experience in the music industry today, and I kinda stunned myself when I told this person that ONE unscrupulous person brought us to our knees, financially and personally. We lost most of our possessions, including our home and vehicles, because of this person, but we did NOT lose who we are, we did NOT lose WHY we came to NashVegas, which was to help writers and support our love of music. Loving music, writing music, exposing our souls for music is a double edged sword. I am not stupid, I KNOW that we need to make money, but I also know that needing to make money does NOT mean one has to sell their soul. Unfortunately the guy we dealt with had no compunction when it came to selling his soul, but our souls became entangled in that “sale.”

During our time in NashVegas we helped so many people, and we “lived our dreams.” We brought songs to life that would have never existed were we not in business. We believed and shared and supported so many people and their dreams.

We arrived in NashVegas at the end of the “good times,” the early 2000’s, but we did our best to keep the “good times” rolling at Ash Street Music, our company. But the end of true music and songwriting was nigh. There is a reason that they named it PANDORA…

To this day we continue to write music and perform. We aren’t looking for vast stardom and fame, but we are looking to get paid for gigs performed. We sing songs we have written and songs we hold dear, and continue to love music.

As I have always said, “We all write because we can’t NOT write.”
