Woman Becomes Only Female Conductor of Major U.S. Orchestra
After being hired as the conductor for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Nathalie Stutzmann became the group’s first female conductor and the only woman to lead a major orchestra in the U.S. The orchestra interviewed 80 candidates before choosing her. Mark Strassmann has more.

BTS the Big Winners at the American Music Awards
New York — South Korean superstars BTS were crowned artist of the year at the American Music Awards on Sunday, brushing aside challenges from Taylor Swift, Drake and The Weeknd as they took home a total of three awards and teamed up with Coldplay for a raucous “My Universe” and closed the show with “Butter.”
“Seven boys from Korea, united by love for music, met the love and support from all the armies all over the world,” said BTS’ RM after the group won their artist of the year for the first time. “This whole thing is a miracle. Seriously, we would never take this for granted.”
The band was also named favorite pop duo or group and got the favorite pop song award for “Butter.”

Inside Soul Train Awards 2021: BET Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Soul Train Getting Down
It’s been 50 years since the premier of Soul Train. The Saturday morning dance and variety show became a cultural phenomenon. Although the weekly broadcast went off the air in 2006, the Soul Train legacy still lives on. Vladimir Duthiers spoke with music and culture journalist Nelson George, singer-songwriter Leon Bridges, and Soul Train Awards executive producer Connie Orlando about Soul Train’s impact on everything from dance to dress, and commemorating the special milestone at the world-famous Apollo Theater in Harlem.
