From Annette Cannon: wrote Ashesh Dangol, one of our guest speakers at the April meeting, and asked that he send us a follow up on how our donation was utilized after the earthquake. He sent a very nice letter and I thought this may give people more confidence in sending funds to him to help people.
They have been using the funds to reinforce the earthquake proof cheap houses by reusing the materials from the destroyed houses. They are focusing also on education with the funds.
Another use is that they are beginning to think about a project to build a resort type place in Halchowk. Once the resort gains some funds, they will invest the money earned, back into developing Halchowk. They call it a ‘social business plan’ where anyone can openly invest their funds to help out. He also stated that there are a lot of new possibilities coming up that people can contribute to.
In addition, they are holding concerts called “Pray and Play for Nepal”. They are asking for musicians who want to contribute to come to Nepal and join in playing to help raise more funds.
