As a percussionist Dave Perlowski desired to play the music of WAR in nearly every project he had been involved with over the last 10 years but with no takers. So to satisfy the burning he began auditioning players in June 2016 and, after 25 auditions, Cisco’s Kids is now reminding Front Range audiences of the great music and important message that was an important soundtrack during the tumultuous ’60’s and ‘70’s.

“It all started with a business plan” Dave says, “and that plan has been a key factor in attracting top players into the project.” With the likes of Dan Treanor (Harp), Tom Capek (Keys), Mark Strivings (Alto Sax) D Broox (Vocal), Ivy Hartfield (Vocal), Don Millan (Guitar), Tim Kotovsky (Bass) and Anthony Hester (Drums), the band delivers an authentic recreation of the originals.

Dave continues: “I did a lot of research prior to beginning this project and even though the band WAR had earned 17 gold or platinum designations for their recordings, I found only 2 California bands that are paying tribute to the music.”

Having just come off a June 23rd show at the Oriental Theater and the Denver Cinco de Mayo festival, Cisco’s Kids is receiving warm accolades from appreciative audiences that remember the street vibe that was created by the original jam band.

It’s too bad that five of the original members of WAR have been legally barred from using the name of the band they built. They perform now as the Lowrider Band and among Cisco’s Kids missions is to help its audiences understand the back story. The band is next scheduled to play the Taste of Colorado on September 2 and at the Monsters of Madness Music Fest outside of Colorado Springs September 3rd.
