Last year, in 2020, amid the Corona Virus epidemic the Denver metropolitan area and beyond witnessed a sharp decrease in live music, not just in venues closing, but also with bands often taking a hiatus due to the financial impact as well as opportunities quickly dissolving. Blues musicians as well as venue owners, fans, organizers, and patrons alike felt the impacts first hand. The financial impact to our community was devastating as so many watched their way of life swiftly disappear. A large swath of the Colorado blues community sadly came to a screeching halt.
Now that 2021 is upon us, it’s spring, the vaccines are being more widely distributed, and now we’re looking forward to resuscitating our blues community. We have plenty of work we hope to do to help Colorado and our blues community once again prosper.
The Mile High Blues Society Board of Directors met recently via Zoom and voted to extend ALL MHBS memberships that have expired anytime between March 1, 2020 through today, March 22, 2021, to be automatically extended, at your current membership level, until July 1, 2021.
Any memberships purchased or renewed since July 2020, will also be extended for the appropriate commensurate period.
Now is your time to be involved! We need you! We welcome your diverse knowledge, skills, interest, contribution, and love of the Blues!
Here is our call to action – MHBS is actively seeking new board members to join our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The MHBS board is comprised of elected members as well as having board members at large and volunteers. Being a board member has simple requirements, attending regular meetings (via Zoom and face to face when safe), participating in strategic planning, working on fundraising initiatives, serving on committees, helping with the MHBS Sponsored Events, hosting Blues Jams, helping plan and assist with the logistics for the International Blues Challenge (IBC) local challenges, and Blues Children on Stage (BCOS). All positions on the MHBS, elected or appointed, are volunteer positions. No one on the MHBS Board of Directors is financially compensated.
We are seeking individuals with experience and expertise where your contributions will further advance our mission. We’re seeking brilliant minds who love the blues, like to have fun, understand technology, fund raising, management, leadership, advisory capacity, grant writing, event organizing, just to name a few of the skills and interests we’re seeking.
And we are always seeking volunteers, the gears of the MHBS machine!
Please email your interest to info@milehighbluessociety.com no later than Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
