The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus makes their long-awaited return to the Ellie Caukins Opera House to present Motown and More: From The Temptations to Lizzo for three shows, April 1 and 2. DGMC will celebrate a half-century of iconic African American pop music rooted in the distinctive sounds of the Motor City and now permeates every genre of popular music today. DGMC will be joined on stage by The Cleo II ensemble for a first-ever collaboration with Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, performing three new works choreographed specifically for the show.
Motown and More will also feature the Colorado premiere of “The Seven Last Words of the Unarmed,” by Joel Thompson. The last words of seven unarmed black men — including Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, and Eric Garner, each killed by police or authority figures — inspired the lyrics for this powerful piece. Aurora’s Rangeview High School Choir will join DGMC for this powerful multi-movement choral piece.
