By Amanda Gilbert, KUSA-TV, Denver | A Denver woman says she was shocked and frustrated to discover her likeness displayed on city buses without her consent. Kalyn Heffernan, a musician, activist and former mayoral candidate, said she first learned her image appeared on RTD buses when someone sent her a photo.
The image was an artist’s rendering based on an older photo of her. It had been submitted as part of a bus wrap design contest by RTD to commemorate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
“Being a very noticeably disabled person my whole life, I have always been exploited or easily capitalized on for my likeness and my appearance,” Heffernan said. “No one was going to think to reach out to me about this. Yeah, it’s infuriating.”
