I love watching the Academy Awards to see who won for the best songs or scores in this past year’s movies. There were some really good compositions this year and it was great to hear that Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell won for best song for “What Was I Made For?” from the movie “Barbie”. By the way, if you haven’t seen Barbie, it really is quite a good movie and not at all what you are thinking. Not a “cartoon” in any way. And “Oppenheimer” was a stunner. Eye opening.
Winning for the “Best Original Score” was Ludwig Göransson for “Oppenheimer.”
Also to be congratulated is “War is Over! Inspired by the Music of John Lennon and Yoko Ono” for “Best Animated Short.”
And we are thrilled that “The Last Repair Shop” won for its category “Best Documentary Short.” You may remember that we covered this film in our February 15, 2024 “issue”. The Last Repair Shop’ documents a unique city-run service to fix students’ instruments in Los Angeles, apparently the only one left in the world. Our thanks goes out to them for keeping the kids up and running!
All of the nominees were excellent. One of those years that, in any other year, they each would have won.
