Photo: Stephen Dearborn | We had a few “Congratulations Are in Order” notes on Facebook for several people this week so we combined them into one article. First of all, COMBO’s Vice-President Dr. Annette Cannon writes her son Stephen Dearborn will be one of the featured performers in the Seattle production of “Titanic: The Musical”. Stephen will be singing and playing the part of Jim Farrell. I get to see the final show in May!
Epic and majestic, with moments of heartbreaking intimacy, Titanic captures the triumph and tragedy of the hopeful passengers on the ill-fated Ship of Dreams, including workers in the boiler room, first-class attendants, the poorest passengers who scraped together their life savings to purchase third-class tickets to America, to some of the wealthiest men of the Victorian age, including John Jacob Astor and Benjamin Guggenheim. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score in 1997.

Hey, ya’ll! I’m proud to announce the re-launch of my website, https://www.richowenmusic.com! My most sincere thanks to my good friend and fellow band member, Out-Raij-ous himself, Raij Doode. He singlehandedly rebuilt the website from scratch. Please check it out! Rich also wrote earlier that he had just signed a deal with a record company out of Nashville and is really looking forward to the future. What a way to “retire”, Rich!

On 12/4/21 – I “retired” from the wedding bandleader biz with the Groove Nation Orchestra. A great 13 year run with an amazing band and family. The following day I started living my full time musical life as a sideman for musicals. Little did I know that my life was really about get busy. As of yesterday, I’ve clocked in more than 475 gigs over the course of 28 months. It’s now time to step back and really take a break ‘til July. Spend time with my “gig widow” Sue, do some more travel, defrost some original songs that I’ve had to put on hold, heal my body & soul, volunteer for some positive causes and celebrate living like a “normal” person for the next few months. Grateful looking back on the past and excited to move forward into the future. Blessed to still be able to do all the things I love in music and life. [Just in case you hadn’t noticed, Dave, COMBO is looking for volunteers! Might be right up your alley!]

I have exciting news! Last year the Colorado Symphony hired our son Jack to arrange the music for their concert with Cypress Hill at The Mission Ballroom in Denver. Cypress Hill is now taking Jack’s arrangements to London for their concert with THE LONDON SYMPHONY! So Jack and Allie are going to London for the concert. We had planned to go too, but the concert is already sold out. I can hardly wrap my head around it. The London Symphony will be playing the music arranged by our son!
