Congratulations|

Joel was awarded semifinalist for Song of the Year with “Come Over”. Joel says he’s pretty excited – even though he didn’t win! “Come Over” was also one of the Top Songs for the 2015 COMBO Songwriters Contest.

This is Jennifer with the Song of the Year songwriting contest. I am contacting you about the material you submitted into the previous contest. Even though your material did not place as a Winner or Finalist, you still did incredibly well in the contest. You had an entry that received the Semi-Finalist placement – http://songwriters.songoftheyear.com/joelashmore.htm

The ‘Semi-Finalist’ placement is the highest placement next only to the one winner and four finalists from each category.

Great job and congratulations on your songwriting placement!

BRAD RICHMOND WINS S.W. REGIONAL COUNTRY SHOWDOWN!

Congratulations to Brad Richmond for winning the Southwest Regional Contest of the Country Showdown held at the historic Shuler Theater in Raton, Colorado last Saturday night. Brad, of Burlington, Colorado, represented Colby, Kansas, radio station KWBG in the competition. He  won an all-expenses paid trip to Nashville, Tennessee to perform in the final of the 2015 Country Showdown at the Ryman Auditorium on January 21, 2016. The show will be recorded for televising at a later date.

Also competing were Jana Lee (KNID, Enid, Oklahoma), Reanna (KIXN/KPER, Hobbs, NM), Caleb Young (NW Texas; KBST, Big Spring, Texas), Logan Tucker (South Texas; Badlands Radio, Corpus Christi, Texas), and COMBO members Facing West (Caitlin & Sidney Powell of Evergreen, CO), representing radio station KBVC, Salida, Colorado.

The show was really good and we’re positive that the judges had a really tough time trying to decide on the winner. Brad performed a cover song (Desperado by the Eagles) and an original, written by he and his wife, to take the top slot.

Only a few points separated the contestants (from top to bottom) who are judged on a nation- wide judging system which includes Marketability in Country Music, Instrumental/Vocal Ability, Originality of Performance, Stage Presence / Charisma, and Talent. Bonus points are added for performing their own original songs as well.

COMBO also wants to thank ALL the radio stations and promotions managers for sponsoring the Country Showdown! What a wonderful opportunity not only for Colorado’s country, folk, and Americana singers/songwriters to showcase their talents but also for all any country musician in the U.S.A.!

As well as promoting local competitions in Trinidad and Raton, radio stations KCRT and KBKZ are to be totally commended and complimented for producing some really good shows. The SW Regional Final at the Shuler Theater has been one of the best-produced shows in the Four Corners Region and rivals those of major shows in Denver and Phoenix!
