. . . KATEY LAUREL ON WINNING COLORADO STATE COUNTRY SHOWDOWN
Local gorgeous singer/songwriter Katey Laurel won Colorado State finals of the Country Showdown on Sunday, August 31st in Copper Mountain. Katey represented KBVD Country Radio in Salida, CO. Other contestants were Arianna Bustos, Kristi Hoopes, Allen Krehbiel, Brad Richmond, Morgan Krause, and Morgan Hale.
This group of contestants was so good that they could have easily done the National Show all on their own. Definitely a time when the judges TRULY had a hard time deciding between them. Katey will now move on to the Regional Contest to be held at the historic Shuler Theatre in Raton, NM, on Saturday, October 18th.

. . . “TWO GIRLS WITH GUITARS” FEATURED ON CHANNEL 9
“Summer is usually a laid-back time for most kids. However, two sisters in Evergreen are full of experiences that most adults, let alone children, could only dream of.”I was writing songs in my bedroom. I never expected any of this to happen,” Caitlin said. “This blows my mind that any of this is even real. It’s so cool.””We love to cover a lot of the Top 40 hits and try to make them all acoustic,” younger sister Sidney said. In June, they recorded their first CD of original music. “Skyline” is a perfect name when you consider the amazing view they have from their home in Evergreen. They fell in love with Colorado’s beauty soon after moving here from Florida in 2012.During the summer of 2013, the girls played at a lot of open mic nights at restaurants. They learned a lot from those early live performances. That’s when things started to change for them.”

“Summer is usually a laid-back time for most teenagers, but not for Caitlin and Sidney Powell. These two sisters have been using their summer vacation to fulfill their dream of becoming famous musicians. At just 15 and 12 years old, Caitlin and Sidney are well on their way to achieving their goal. The sisters have their own acoustic band, aptly titled “Two Girls with Guitars.” While each sister writes her own music, they also like to cover Top 40 hits. Their journey technically began four years ago when both girls first started taking guitar lessons. But Caitlin confided in her mom at the young age of five that she wanted to be a rockstar when she grew up.”I’m living out everything I ever wanted. If I could go talk to my five-year-old self I would say ‘you were right, this is perfect. I’m so happy,'” says Caitlin.”
