On Monday, May 18th at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom, our guest speaker will be Steve Son, a veteran Denver-based musician known for “Stone Country”—a blend of rockabilly, blues, and country music with over 40 years of experience. He frequently performs with The Steve Son Band and has historical ties to the rockabilly scene, including Steve Son & The Sundogs.
Steve will be talking about his journey from California to Florida to New York’s Greenwich Village early rock scene to Colorado and the Caribou Ranch ‘70s rock, and the music business lessons he learned along the way.
The Steve Son Band was a regualer at Lincoln’s Roadhouse on Pearl St. in Denver for several years. His music is described as a mixture of country, rhythm and blues, and rockabilly. He has released music including Steve Son Reborn (2020), which features mostly original songs. His performances often feature original material and energetic, rockabilly-influenced blues, along with popular rock covers. Often referred to as a Denver rockabilly legend, he has been featured in Colorado music scenes and local media.
Digital Presence: His music can be found on Reverbnation.

Westword Covers Steve Son
To give you an idea of what you’re in for on Steve Son, Denver fixture Jinx Jones writes on the liner notes, “This CD is not a collection of songs that sound alike, but a continuing story that spans forty years of experience.” Steve Son once fronted the rockabilly act Steve Son & the Sundogs, so it’s no surprise that there are a few rockabilly cuts on the fifteen-track album (“I Don’t Like Cryin’,” “You Will Never Have a Love Like Mine”). But Son also explores a wide palette of colors on the disc. . . . Steve and guest Gary England get into some ’60s psych-rock before delving into a few country numbers. Through it all, Son throws a bit of twang into his vocals, even on the soulful “You Left Me,” which recalls Brenton Wood’s “The Oogum Boogum Song.”
The meeting will be moderated by Jamie Krutz with Todd Caron moderating the Chat Room!
