Megan Thee Stallion Suing Record Label Over ‘album’ Definition

Megan Thee Stallion album | By BBC Staff | Megan Thee Stallion has filed a new lawsuit against her record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, over a row about what constitutes an album.

The dispute is about her 2021 release, Something For Thee Hotties, which was classed as a mixtape.

It debuted at number three on the US Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in its first week of release.

In the lawsuit, filed on Friday, Megan’s team say the release “clearly meets the definition of “Album””.

In document seen by Radio 1 Newsbeat, it says 1501 wants to “tie [Megan] down” for its own “financial benefit”.

Team USA Skaters Alexa Knierim, Brandon Frazier Sued for Song Use at Beijing Olympics

By Ryan Young, Yahoo Sports | Team USA figure skaters Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier were hit with a lawsuit this week by a music group for their use of their version of “House of the Rising Sun” during the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

The music group Heavy Young Heathens, which is made up of Robert and Aron Marderosian, sued the figure skating duo along with NBC and U.S. Figure Skating on Thursday for the use of the song during their short program routine in Beijing.

The brothers claimed in the lawsuit, according to Reuters, that they weren’t contacted ahead of time by anybody — including NBC, USA Network and Peacock — about using the song for their short program.

“These violations cause great harm to the value of (the Marderosians) command for such a well known piece of their recording catalog, and insults the integrity of their professional reputation. . .

Tonya Nichols: They should be flattered that someone chose their music! People who never have heard it otherwise might have liked it and downloaded it. I see it as a compliment AND free advertising. Greedy idiots wanting to stir the pot!

Tom Dietz: Never heard of the group. Definitely getting the exposure now. Why sue NBC? I guess they have more money than the skaters.

Missy Graham Davis: I find it funny that they are all butt hurt about them using their song, but in actuality it isn’t “their song.” House Of The Rising Sun was recorded by The Animals in the sixties. They’re mad because someone used the music they used from someone.
