Photo: Dave Ratner | Our sincerest THANKS to Dave Ratner of Creative Law Network who presented a webinar on “What the Heck is the Corporate Transparency Act and Does it Apply to Me?” If you own a business, there is a new federal law that likely requires you to register your business with the US government. Yes, that includes an individual artist or creative entrepreneur operating a business for their creative work. The Corporate Transparency Act says that most small businesses, including LLCs, must file information about the company and its owners with the US Department of Treasury. While there is no filing fee, failing to file can result in fines and even jail time. But do not fear, Colorado Attorneys for the Arts (CAFTA) is here! This informative and interactive webinar will tell you what you need to know, answer your questions, and help you comply with this new law. Join CAFTA and law firm Creative Law Network to find out more! If you missed any of the presentation, it will be available on YouTube and the CBCA website. Feel free to pass along that link to others as well! https://www.creativelawnetwork.com or https://CBCA.org/colorado-attorneys-for-the-arts | Thanks also to COMBO Board Member Jamie Krutz for attending and taking notes! https://www.jamiekrutz.com

I put a note on Facebook saying we’d like to update our website’s Resource page for places to play and asking for names and contact info for their booking people. We only got one reply – from Chris Kresge! Chris K. wrote: I have a list of around 450 venues on the Colorado Playlist. He also wanted to remind our readers that the “Rocky Mountain Music Network, LLC offers services .. including consulting on development, promotion and booking. I typically work on a referral basis and prefer not to have a website. If people are looking for consulting services I’m available.” Contact Chris at (970) 217-6753 and check out the list at https://coloradoplaylist.com

The trial of Aurora EMTs Jeremy Cooper and Peter Cichuniec, who administered the Ketamine that allegedly killed Elijah McClain, ended on December 22nd with the jury finding both paramedics guilty. Mr. Cichuniec was sentenced to 5 years in jail on March 1st. Read the full article under “News”. Elijah, a young violinist, who was just walking down the street and who had committed no crime, died a few days later after being administered a large dose of ketamine. Elijah was confronted by police because a neighbor called 911 and said Elijah “looked suspicious”.

We got a reminder from Legacy.com that our beloved board member Daryl “Lee” Bagby passed away 3 years ago this month. So hard to believe. We miss him a lot as well as Barb Dunmall and Steve Werges. They were all COMBO board members and dedicated musicians and supporters of Colorado music. RIP.
