WOW! Our meeting on Monday night with guest speaker Dae Bogan of The Mechanical Licensing Collective was so informative! The MLC is the approved entity to collect your royalties from the plays of your music on streaming sites. Mr. Bogan was showing us how to set up [your] account and one of our members volunteered his song. Turns out his song – and more from his album had plays and he had royalties coming but he had not signed up on The MLC! We’re anxious to know how this turns out. Mr. Bogan pointed out that The MLC sent out more than $1.6 BILLION in payments to artists since its inception in 2018 and that there is still a half billion dollars in a “Black Box” just waiting to be paid out when the artists sign up.
