Our hearts go out to the families and friends of those killed in last night’s aerial collision over Reagan International Airport in Washington, D.C. The U.S. lost 14 Figure Skaters and their coaches. More under “Notable Deaths”. Figure skaters are dependent on music for their routines and, therefore, they are a part of our community. Pretty sure there were at least a couple of musicians/singers on that plane, too.
.
So glad that our members and supporters help COMBO survive by paying dues. Otherwise, we would have been in that HUGE group of non-profits scrambling for funding when the current administration put a freeze on Congressional-approved funding. Good thing it was rescinded – unfortunately with conditions – until February 10th. We’ll have to wait and see how Colorado’s SCFD (Scientific, Cultural, and Facilities District) does as they dole out millions of dollars in federal aid to our state’s non-profits to keep them up and running.
.
Sending a BIG Thank You to Chris Webb & Danny Tampkin of Musician’s Tip Jar for the very informative talk at Monday night’s meeting. Check out more at “Reports”.
.
We’re going to Odde’s Speakeasy to watch the Grammys THIS Sunday, February 2nd starting at 6:00 p.m. Read more in the Events column!
.
The 2025 GRAMMYs telecast will be reimagined to raise funds to support wildfire relief efforts and aid music professionals impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles. Donate to the Recording Academy’s and MusiCares’ Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort To Support Music Professionals.

Nice note from Julie, a supporter who “put her money where her mouth is…” She writes on our Survey: “Love listening to various [genres of] music. I’ve worked at the Majestic Theater [in San Antonio, TX] for 36 seasons now. Love to travel. Have been on the e-mail list for a while and enjoy reading the various articles. Your organization is a wonderful benefit to those in the business of music. I’m happy to finally be a sponsor of this marvelous volunteer organization. My “thanks” to all who volunteer. These newsletters are wonderfully written. Love the pictures, links and scripts. Hats off to the individuals who do this every week. I look forward to reading future newsletters.”
.
More later but it looks like the Michael Jackson bio-pic is in big trouble. Seems someone didn’t read the release contract very well and something in the movie goes against the contract so the family will not allow it to be released (even though its star is a nephew of MJ). Another problem: A song with MJ singing was released without permission from the writer – none other than Paul Anka. And that’s a thorn in the process. More reasons why YOU need to know the “business of music.”

Bandcamp Fridays: Let us know if your songs are on Bandcamp and send your URL so we can let our readership know.

COMBO is about the LOVE of Music and the musicians who create and play songs. We have a board of dedicated and knowledgeable musicians and supporters who play or produce music and music acts. We offer an exchange of information, guidance and advice to help musicians advance their careers no matter what field you’re in. Our articles and programs represent some phase of the music business that could affect musicians – all musicians – everywhere. Our motto in Colorado: Elevate Your Musical State!
