Photo: Rocky Mountain Brassworks | We’re sending out a GREAT, BIG THANK YOU to Carla Jordan for speaking at our meeting last Monday. Carla offered some terrific insight into the perils of owning a live music venue and what it takes to keep one running and making it successful. In spite of all the pitfalls, she loved working with the musicians and running special events like benefits, weddings, and even funerals. And the one thing that kept her working was the wonderful people she met along the way, several of whom attended the meeting! Nice to see and meet them, too.

From Chris Daniels on Fb 9/20/24: A friend and music business pro just returned from a big music conference in Nashville and reported that music fans are turning away from packaged commercial music and even tribute bands towards “roots music.” His unofficial analysis from attending almost all of the business panels was that this trend is nationwide and a healthy sign for blues, bluegrass,singer/ songwriter, (funky horn bands) and even jazz musicians and creators. That is about as unscientific as it gets, but it was encouraging news and a hopeful development in recorded and live music. Or as Freddi [Henchi] sings, “I like funky music, it makes me feel alright!”

Taylor Swift has had a charmed and illustrious career, even becoming the youngest person ever to strike a record deal, which she did when she was 14. What was her first job? She worked at her family’s Christmas tree farm, where her job was to pick insects off the trees.
