Congratulations, Kudos, and Pats-on-the-Backs to . . . COMBO Board Member Annette Cannon: Two new positive things: 1) Received notice that the Nominating Committee of Colorado Nurses Association has endorsed her candidacy for Director of Region 1 on the 2014 ballot; and 2) Received a request to be a manuscript reviewer for The international Journal of Nursing Studies. Good stuff!
In case you didn’t know, Annette is also COMBO’s Ombudsman. She is terrific with working out problems for musicians, especially with clubs that for some reason do not pay what they promised [your] band. Send us an e-mail if you have a problem, telling us what the problem is and contact info for you (name, e-mail and phone number). Annette will give you a call to discuss. [We are NOT a legal service but Annette is very good at being a mediator and can find a mutual solution.]
. . . Jesse Kinch who won the new talent show Rising Star on ABC on August 24th. Second place went to Austin French. Both young men were 20 years old and are really talented. We wish them the best in their musical futures. To see their winning performances, go to:

. . . Lauren Brombert! Lauren writes: One of the most thrilling somewhat-recent events was getting the news that “Love’s Carousel” had been chosen as a Top 5 winner of the Great American Song Contest (Adult Contemporary category) – which got me an Outstanding Achievement in Songwriting Award. An added bonus was that another song, “Stars Gotta Burn to Shine,” co-written with my friend Jason Bender-Stone, was picked as a finalist in the Pop category. Both songs were recorded at CCM Studios by the wonderful Darren Skanson.
