Photo: AJ Fullerton | AJ Fullerton’s “Oh Frustration” is a stark reminder that loneliness is part of the human condition. In a roots soul style similar to flagship Colorado songwriters like Nathaniel Rateliff, Fullerton’s two-chord meditation was written on a quiet night a few years ago. His lyrics speak to moments where you feel alone and disconnected and his lyrics are augmented by the wistful backing vocals of Loren Dorland. “Oh Frustration” was selected as a spur-of-the-moment song choice—the arrangement organically fell into place in the moment and nothing about the performance or delivery was premeditated. With Eddie Roberts producing the session utilizing his wealth of analog recording knowledge, the rare studio moment was captured in a 4-track session at Color Red Studios in summer 2020.
