As we promised, we made a compilation CD of the winning songs from the recent COMBO 2015 Songwriting Contest (a BIG THANK YOU to Mark King, COMBO’s secretary, and CODA, Inc., for doing this). We gave them out to VIPs at the Durango Songwriters Expo held at the Omni Interlocken Hotel & Resort in Broomfield this past October. In the hope that someone will “find” one of the songs, here are some of the people that accepted the CD:
Al Anderson (Nashville, Santa Fe) – Al is a very important part of The Expo and one of the Expo’s greatest songwriters, guitarists, and artist/performers. He was a founding member of the legendary rock group, NRBQ, and has had numerous big hits including “Another Trip Around the Sun”, “The Cowboy in Me” (#1 for Tim McGraw), “Unbelievable” (#1 for George Strait), and many more. “Big Al” has multiple songs on the new Bonnie Raitt and Sheryl Crow records, and he co-wrote the band new George Strait song, “Cold Beer Conversation.”
Al also played electric guitar on Jonathan Edwards’ 1973 album Have a Good Time for Me. Prior to that, he was a member of The Wildweeds in the late 1960s.
In the 1990s, Anderson shifted his focus to country music, writing hits for such acts as Carlene Carter, Vince Gill, Diamond Rio and Trisha Yearwood, and several album cuts. Anderson has also released six solo albums.
