Block Party Featuring Butcher Brown Presented by Levitt Pavilion, KUVO JAZZ, THE DROP 104.7 and Rocky Mountain Public Media Friday, August 28th | KUVO JAZZ and THE DROP 104.7 are hosting the Block Party on August 28, 2026, as a part of Levitt Pavilion Denver’s Free Concert Series dedicated to building community through music. Headlined by Butcher Brown, this free event celebrates the fusion of jazz and hip-hop, inviting Denver to explore new musical ground. We’re bringing our two passionate public radio communities together with a set that rewires what you think of jazz and hip-hop.

“We are so grateful to our community and wanted to give them a free show as a thank you,” says Ayana Contreras, Vice President of Radio for Rocky Mountain Public Media. “This is our chance to showcase sounds that defy categories, while bringing people together for a night of joy.”

Butcher Brown is a multifaceted band from Richmond, Virginia, that calls their sound “solar music,” – an invitation to listen and feel a seamless blend of sounds – including jazz, hip-hop, rock, funk, R&B, alternative, soul, country, house, bossa nova, pop, and more. “We are the melting pot. We are the mix,” says band member Devonne “DJ Harrison” Harris. “It’s music for everybody,” trumpeter and saxophonist Marcus “Tennishu” Tenney adds. “Young, old, big, small, short, tall, they all start dancing eventually. It’s literally music for the whole solar system.”

Their upcoming project, “A Supreme Blue” (out now), celebrates the centennial year of jazz icons Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

Delayed Celebration of Harry Tuft’s 90th Birthday and New Recording Release August 30th

On August 30th, Colorado Music Hall of Fame member Harry Tuft is releasing a new recording at Denver’s Swallow Hill Music Association. The event doubles as a delayed celebration of his 90th birthday last December. The CD and the party got delayed due to Harry getting treated for cancer and developing some singing issues soon after recording of this disc began last year.

In addition to being perhaps the nation’s only 90-year-old releasing a full-length recording this summer, Harry is a folk-music icon in Colorado and beyond. He founded the Denver Folklore Center in the Sixties and helped start the revered Swallow Hill Music Association. In his early days he promoted Joan Baez on her first big tour in Colorado and introduced her to The Beatles when they played Red Rocks.

Harry has played and worked with numerous national and Colorado music heavies, several of whom appear on the new recording. The CD’s, “Friends, Lovers and Other Strangers,” details are at https://harrytuft.com/wp-content/newfold-page-cache/friendscd/_index.html .

Harry will also play Songwriters at the Speakeasy on Sept. 8.
