From Jason Blume’s blog of August 12, 2026 on Facebook | BIG News: BMG and Suno, the leader in AI music creation tools, have announced a global alliance that establishes a strategic framework covering BMG’s recorded and music publishing repertoire. The deal is part of Suno’s upcoming launch of its first music model developed in partnership with the music industry.

Together, the companies will develop entirely new music experiences that reimagine how artists and fans can connect. The agreement ensures that BMG artists and songwriters who choose to participate have their rights protected and are compensated for their music, while also settling prior use of BMG recordings and publishing works.

Mikey Shulman, Suno co-founder and CEO, said, “We believe the future of music will be more participatory, creating entirely new ways for artists and fans to connect. Building that future responsibly means working directly with the people who make music and the companies that represent them. Together with BMG, we can develop new experiences that give artists and songwriters real choice, generate new revenue, and make music a bigger part of people’s lives.”

Celine Joshua, EVP, Global Marketing & Streaming, BMG, said, “The future of AI in music will be defined by whether artists and songwriters remain at the center of the opportunity and share in the value it creates. Choice is the guiding principle. This agreement establishes strong protections, clear economics, and new creative possibilities for artists and their fans. As we enter the era of creation, we look forward to shaping that future together with our creators and Suno.”

The partnership reflects the companies’ shared commitment to the responsible development of AI music tools. Recently, on August 6, Suno published its updated principles for building the future of music and announced a suite of safeguards intended to make Suno-generated music easier to identify and to help prevent the mass production and distribution of inauthentic or low-quality content. Those principles will inform the new experiences developed through the BMG and Suno partnership.

Warren Boutros: I read a post yesterday saying that Spotify will start tagging AI songs and will no longer monetize them or include them in playlists, and this supposedly includes human- written AI demos. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it would be unfortunate for human-written songs.
