COMBO – The Colorado Music Business Organization

Events|

BREAKING! The Broomfield Summer Festival for THIS COMING SUNDAY has been postponed due to the projected temperatures of 100+. The action has been taken to protect the performers, crew, and attendees.
.
Kevin Anderson, GM of the Mission Ballroom, set up a tour of the venue for COMBO last Sunday. We really enjoyed it and wish YOU could have been there. See a better description of the Ballroom in the article below.
.
COMBO also wanted to thank Member Steve Morrow for his contribution which will greatly help us out! If you feel so inclined, we sure would appreciate it!
.
Fox 2 News: The Bishop family returned to Bishop Castle on Monday to find not only the castle still standing, but notes and signatures in their guest book from fire crews. Firefighters from across the nation left their mark in the book and on the land they helped protect. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1458997836260695&set=pcb.1458997992927346

.
Sad news: Colorado Blues Society President Mark Schleiger and The Board announce that they have decided to cancel their IBC Blues Challenge this year. Due to declining interest, they will not send a band or solo/duo act to the IBC in Memphis in Jan. 2027. Next year the program will be revamped, starting the Challenge earlier in the year, giving artists longer to raise money and prepare a great show. CBS will, however, still take entries for the Best Self-Produced CD Contest. Contact Mark Schleiger for details, president@coblues.org | https://www.coblues.org
.
No COMBO General Meeting in August but plan on joining us on September 21st when our guest speaker will be none other than Gil Asakawa, formidable writer of interesting and interesting articles in the media as a writer, editor, music critic and online expert for 40 years. He’s currently Associate Editor for New Hope Network’s Nutrition Business Journal but music holds his heart!
.
How much did Gary Portnoy make from the Cheers theme song (Where Everybody Knows Your Name)? Gary made an initial up-front fee of just $150, but ultimately earned multiple millions of dollars over the decades from continuous backend performance royalties. [The show lasted 11 years and plays on classic stations all over the world yet.] [Gary performed the song; he co-wrote it with Judy Hart Angelo.] [Publishing rights went to the Charles Brothers Production Company who commissioned the song.]
