The Denver Brass, one of the finest large brass ensembles in the world, will host a release party for two new albums, “The Denver Brass: Elevated Masterworks” and “If You Just Believe,” during the free “Denver Brass: Signature Sounds” concert. The concert will be held during the Rafael Méndez Brass Institute (RMBI) event at the University of Denver on July 21 at 7:30 p.m. and is free to attend.
“Elevated Masterworks,” an original commissions album, was produced by University of Denver professor and recording engineer Michael Schulze. “If You Just Believe,” a holiday album, was produced by recording engineer and Senior Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force Academy Band, Jeff Valentine. Albums will be available for purchase at the concert and available online after the concert.
The concert is part of a week of free public performances during RMBI, an intensive seminar for brass students that focuses on career development, music business and professional-level technical skills. Named in honor of legendary trumpet virtuoso Rafael Méndez, the institute brings together students, educators and acclaimed performers for collaborative sessions of learning and music-making. The institute is led by some of the finest brass musicians in the world, members of Summit Brass and University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music faculty.
“RMBI is our annual cornerstone educational offering that brings together students, faculty artists and brass music supporters, so it feels like the right place for us to celebrate the launch of our two newest albums,” said Kathy Brantigan, artistic director and founder of The Denver Brass. “Holding the release party at a free concert engages the community and our supporters, and gives audiences a chance to hear The Denver Brass live before they purchase an album.”
During the week, there will be several free concerts at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts that are open to the public, including:
- July 21 – Denver Brass: Signature Sounds at 7:30 p.m.
- July 22 – Artist Faculty Recitals at 7:30 p.m.
- July 23 – Artist Faculty Recitals at 7:30 p.m.
- July 25 – Summit Brass Finale Concert at 7:30 p.m.
