By Rachel DeSantis, People | Kane Brown is opening up about an “awful” business deal he made early in his career that he claims lost him $10 million. The country singer, 32, said on Bobby Bones Presents: The BobbyCast on Thursday, March 19 that he was a “normal kid” trying to kickstart a music career on Facebook when he was discovered and introduced to someone who inked him to a 50/50 deal. [Shades of Elvis!]

“I was just so excited to get signed that I couldn’t wait,” said Brown, who noted he was sleeping in his car at the time to take business meetings since he couldn’t afford hotels. “I didn’t have anybody on my side. I didn’t have my mom. I didn’t have my dad. So I just signed a 50/50 deal.”

The “Woman” singer admitted that he realized the deal was “terrible,” and said he believes it “killed” his career. He did not name the person with whom he signed.

When his first songs started to go viral, Brown said he started to receive interest from a number of labels. But because of his deal, he had to choose Sony.
