Buyer Beware|

Mark writes: I want to share this for anyone who perhaps has not received something like this before, but even if you have, and especially if you know me, please enjoy the high entertainment value of this post! Here is the initial inquiry that I received in an email from my website:

Comment: I am writing to inquire about your availability and services to play for a special occasion — my wedding anniversary.

We are planning a celebration on the last weekend of April at our residence, and we would love to have you provide the music for the evening. We’re aiming for a lively yet elegant atmosphere with a mix of classic hits and some contemporary tracks to keep our guests entertained across different age groups. [Note the date for the gig]

Could you please let me know the dates you are available in April? [She said the “last weekend of April] Additionally, I would appreciate details about your rates, equipment, set-up requirements [sounds like she wants “a band”], and if you offer any special packages for events like ours. Our budget is $4,900. We want you to play for us online [HUH?] so you won’t have to come to our residence but we will fund your transportation if you make it to our residence in Orange Beach, AL . [She wants you/the band to play online but you can go to Orange Beach?]

Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I’m looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully working together to make the evening memorable.

Please write me at elizabethanderson1976@proton.me

Warm regards,

So, I responded via text saying that I have a few questions to ask, and this is the next reply I got back…. keep in mind that I have never spoken with, or conversed with this person:

“Elizabeth’s Reply:”
Hello
Sorry for the delay getting back to you

I am writing to formally confirm that you have been hired as the DJ for our wedding anniversary celebration on April 26, 2026. We are thrilled to have you provide the music and entertainment for this special occasion. We are very excited to have you as part of this special day.

We trust your expertise to make the event memorable for all our guests. We have watched you perform, and you are the perfect fit for our anniversary. This letter serves as a formal confirmation of your service. Your services will begin at 6pm and continue until 9pm. Because this will be an online service, the last time we did this was with zoom, but we can equally use Jitsi Meet, Google Meet (via personal accounts), Microsoft Teams (free personal version), or Pumble which whichever you are familiar with and okay with your preference.

Regarding payment, we will be providing a certified check in the amount of $4900, which is our full budget for this service, and the extra to serve as incentives to ensure we are not disappointed on the day. Please let us know if you require any specific payment details or documentation from our side beforehand.

If you have any questions or need to clarify anything before the event, feel free to get in touch or let us know if there are any additional contracts or paperwork we need to sign to finalize the booking. Otherwise, we look forward to an amazing celebration with your music setting the perfect tone and a fantastic night of music and celebration.

Please send me the name you want the check payable to, address and phone number so we can be able to send the payment to officially confirm our booking.

Thank you once again for working with us.

We appreciate your professionalism and are eager to enjoy the evening together.

Best Regards

[COMBO sincerely hopes that you don’t fall for this by sending information to “them.” It’s amazing how quickly this “relationship” will – literally – go south on you!]
