By Neia Balao, Yahoo! Entertainment | The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards proved to be a night to remember. From standout designer looks on the red carpet to an array of showstopping performances, the UBS Arena in New York was brimming with entertainment. Hosted by LL Cool J, the annual awards show took place on Sunday night and honored the artistic achievements of several of the music world’s biggest names, including Mariah Carey, who received the 2025 Video Vanguard Award. The show paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and British singer and Osbourne protégé Yungblud performing a medley of the late rocker’s hits.
Lady Gaga, who led this year’s crop of nominees with 12 nominations in total, took home the Artist of the Year award. Gaga herself was physically present to accept the award before quickly returning to Madison Square Garden for night two of her Mayhem Ball tour.
Sabrina Carpenter also won big on Sunday night. Carpenter, who just released her new album, Man’s Best Friend, received the MTV VMA for Best Album for 2024’s Short n’ Sweet.
Taking home the biggest honor of the night, Video of the Year, was Ariana Grande for “Brighter Days Ahead.” The Wicked star received the Moon Person for Best Pop for the music video as well.
After wrapping up the night with the award for Video of the Year, MTV announced the remainder of this year’s Moon Person recipients on social media.
