By Claudia Dimuro, Life & Culture | The last remaining original member of a death metal band has been hospitalized. The guitarist was admitted into the hospital on Wednesday, and still remains in recovery as of Monday. In a Facebook statement published Thursday, Malevolent Creation revealed to fans that Phillip Fasciana had been admitted into the ICU in Montepelier, France.
“He developed what the doctors deemed to be a severe case of bacterial pneumonia, which may have spread to surrounding organs,” the post explains. “He has been listed as being in critical condition. His family has been notified and will be deciding on next steps, based on what is best for Phil’s condition and overall health.
“We are all crushed to see him in this situation, and it is absolutely life-threatening. So please, please keep Phil in your thoughts and/or prayers with hope he makes a full recovery. Make no mistake, this is a very bad situation and we greatly appreciate your love and understanding.”
According to Blabbermouth.net, Malevolent Creation had been performing shows across Europe when Fasciana fell ill. They performed the rest of the tour as a three-part band following Fasciana’s admission into the hospital.
Fortunately, Fasciana’s condition seems to have improved as of Monday morning: In an update to Facebook, the band states that Fasciana had actually been placed into an induced coma for treatment, but has since been moving in the right direction.
