Per Rick Roberts (7/12/25): We’ve lost another of the ’70s Boulder stalwarts. Milt Muth has passed away. He’s been back in his hometown of Cleveland for some years now, but for many years he was one of the wonderful musicians who also happened to be wonderful people that lived and played around Boulder.
Milt, whose real name was Robert, was the bass player in my last attempt at putting a band together, back in 2014. We only did one show and then decided to fine tune a little more before we put it on display. It was a good band, with great players, and Milt told me this was his favorite photo. From left: Andy Sweetzer, Jim Brady, me, Bob Schlesinger, Milt, and Michael Reese.
Rest in peace, Milt.
PS- I’ve just been reading some of the responses to this post. I thank you all for your condolences about MY loss and concern for MY feelings. Actually, I didn’t post this about me, but to honor Milt’s memory.
Chris Daniels (7/11/25): I first met Milt Muth on 1979. He was playing bass with my old friend Will Luckey in their band Lucky Sayers. He joined Chris Daniels and the Kings in 1984 and played on the first three Kings albums with Bryan, Joey, Randy Barker, Forrest Means, Fly and Jim Waddell. And he was with us when we backed David Bromberg. He was an incredibly lyrical bass player and he had a wicked sense of humor. My favorite time with him was when we shot the video for the “When You’re Cool” album in NYC. He had some great moments in that. Milt was a great dad and though, at times, he had a rough exterior, he had a heart of gold and played some of the best bass lines ever to go on a Kings album. You can hear it in the video below. Safe travels my friend. Your passing hits way too close to home for all of us. Sending love to all those who knew and love you Milt and who will feel your passing deeply. Stay safe out there. ~ CD
Peter Rodman: Just now hearing that the great Milt Muth has passed away. He was SUCH a fun guy, a truly amazing bass player, and ALWAYS a positive spirit! I have no idea what the circumstances were, but we’d been in touch here on FB, until a couple weeks ago. My condolences to his loved ones, and to all who played with him (including moi!) and especially my lifelong Boulder pals, who all KNOW what a TREASURE this guy was. Milt, I’ll miss you. ~Peter Rodman 7/11/25

OTHER NOTABLE MUSICIANS’ DEATHS
Not much information available but we want to note that victims of the July 4th flood in Kerr County, Texas included Country musician/singer/performers Cody Crossland (and his wife Michelle) and Cody’s duo partner & brother-in-law Joel Ramos. They were camping with family when they were swept away. Joel’s body was found later in the afternoon; Cody & Michelle’s bodies were found the next day. We send our sincerest sympathies to their families, friends, and fans. There was no mention of GoFundMe accounts being set up in the newspaper articles we found. Joel’s daughter, Devyn Smith, was found alive clinging to a tree the morning of July 4th and was rescued. Her story was shared worldwide.
