The world has been influenced by the music of hip hop. Hip hop has evolved from just a genre of music to a phenomenon of different proportions. 13. Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival – New York, New York

This festival takes place in the very place that gave birth to hip hop more than 30 years ago. This festival is considered to be the biggest hip hop event with a block-party style that makes it genuine throughout the whole experience. It has an estimated 20,000 attendees yearly. It boasts of a wide range of hip hop related events such as film screenings, exhibitions panel discussions, and different parties in addition to excellent musical performances. The Brooklyn hip hop festival’s past lineups include Q-Tip, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Redman.

Moogfest is a yearly festival in the city in honor of Robert Arthur Moog, the inventor of the Moog synthesizer and the founding father of electronic music. The event goes for 2 to 5 days and includes a lot of popular hip hop music as well as underground hip hop sounds. Attendees at last year’s Moogfest were excited to witness performances from MIA, Tiga, Just Blaze, and High Klassified. Since moving to Asheville from New York, Moogfest has embraced several different music genres in addition to hip hop and electronic music. You can expect more big-name hip hop artists in 2015.

2. Fun Fun Fun Fest – Austin Texas

Fun Fun Fun Fest or FFF got started back in 2006 as a comedy and music festival. Since then, it has held true to its roots. Running for three days, this event brings in stand-up comedians and top-selling recording artists to the stage. The hip hop stage, or in the FFF known as the “Blue Stage”, is a popular aspect of the FFF experience. FFF brings well-known performers such as Ice-T, Lupe Fiasco, and Flatbush Zombies to name a few.

1. Held in September, the Weird City Hip Hop Festival brings a great lineup of hip hop artists to entertain thousands of attendees. Hosted by the Austin Mic Exchange, a group that organizes mic nights and events in the city of Austin, the Weird City Hip Hop Festival was named the best new festival of the year in 2014. Watch out for more information on this up-and-coming new festival that will bring in more hip hop artists to its headline acts.
