The U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority is probing whether the ticket seller, a subsidiary of Live Nation Entertainment, “engaged in unfair commercial practices” when hiking prices for the band’s 2025 reunion tour.
Hundreds of thousands of Oasis fans spent hours in digital queues Saturday as Ticketmaster’s website struggled to cope with demand.
Some reported waiting for more than 10 hours, only to be offered tickets at prices more than two times the original face value.
The tour, which includes several dates at London’s 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium next summer, was long anticipated after the band split in 2009.
Standing tickets for the Wembley shows were originally priced at around £150 (roughly $195). When fans eventually got through to purchase tickets they were met with a notice informing them Ticketmaster was implementing “in demand” ticket pricing. The same standing tickets were then listed at around $465 each.
The CMA said it was investigating whether people were put under pressure to buy tickets at a higher price within a short period of time, “potentially impacting their purchasing decisions.”
