I did some traveling this past couple of weeks to see our neighbors to the east. What struck me is how much work our “immigrants” do, literally from the ground up. From sweeping airport and restaurant floors to cleaning motel & cruise ships rooms to washing high rise windows, I was waited on hand and foot by some really super nice people who made me feel like a queen – even though my income and status certainly does not indicate that! Please don’t malign migrants/immigrants. They are very hard working people from countries such as Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Taiwan, Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Mauritius, Cape Verde, Indonesia, the Philippines and, of course, the ever popular “Utopia”!!! (We knew he was kidding). We asked our helpers where they were from originally and these were the answers we got! They are looking for a better life for their families and themselves and they are willing to work toward that goal – just like our great-great-grandparents did so many years ago.

While transiting through the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport, I picked up a flyer from Terminal Three, a group who does an acoustic set at the airport. Upon inquiry, I found that musicians may apply to play at the airport for tips only but they may sell their merchandise keeping 100%. The lone musician I saw had quite a few dollars in tips so this day’s “take” was good. COMBO will check into this to see if a similar program is available at DIA, Colorado Springs, and other local airports, and we’ll keep you up-to-date on what we find out. http://www.facebook.com/terminalthreemusic
